Research:

I am an Associate Professor in Soil Science at the UFS (since 2016) and hold an NRF C2 rating. My research focus includes hydropedology, environmental soil science, soil physics, and pedology.

In terms of mountain research focus, we have been pioneering hydro-pedological research in the Cathedral Peak research area. We are also quantifying the impact of soil degradation in the Sentinal Peak/Amphitheatre area, and we are investigating the potential of using biochar to reduce pollution from pit latrines in selected residential areas of Qwaqwa (Phuthaditjhaba).

I have produced more than 50 peer-reviewed publications on hydropedology and soil management and have delivered 20 international and 50 national congress presentations. I am involved/lead several externally funded research projects on soil management and hydropedology and have produced 70+ scientific consultancy reports.

Currently, I am Vice-President of the Soil Science Society of South Africa and a SACNASP-registered soil scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat).
