Erica Eloff (soprano)
Margriet van Reisen (mezzo)
Mark Nixon (piano)

5 August 2010
Odeion

19:30

The members of the London Song Circle are South African-born soprano Erica Eloff, Dutch mezzo soprano, Margriet van Reisen and celebrated chamber musician and accompanist, Mark Nixon. For this concert they have put together an enchanting programme of duets and solo songs ranging from Purcell, Schumann, Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninoff to Quilter and Britten.

Erica Eloff graduated from the Potchefstroom University with a B.Mus. degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance (cum laude), having studied voice under Werner Nel. She has an extensive list of oratorios and opera performances, as well as solo recitals in South Africa and abroad. During her studies Erica was awarded several prizes and scholarships by national institutions. Erica Eloff was winner of the London Handel Competition (2008).

Concert performances occupy a central position in Margriet van Reisen's work. In 2002 she made her Berlin Philharmonic debut in Ligeti's Requiem. She was awarded the first prize in the Schubert Competition (with pianist Mark Nixon) and was also a laureate in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

Mark Nixon is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, UNISA, the Amsterdam Conservatory and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has received many prestigious awards and has performed as concerto soloist with South African orchestras, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and with several orchestras in England. As solo recitalist and pianist-accompanist he has appeared extensively in South Africa as well as at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room and Linbury Theatre Covent Garden in London. Mark is a founding member of both the London Song Circle and Ensemble Hans Gal'.
