Quality through support
The Centre for Higher Education Studies and Development (CHESD) is an academic support service, provides initiatives directed at students and is an information supplier for higher education.
As an academic support service CHESD offers support to the University's faculties, rectorate and relevant support services.
CHESD assists with
- E-learning application in blended teaching learning programmes
- staff wellness and staff wellness programmes
- performance management as well as academic and administrative staff development;
- policy studies and research into higher education, as well as the teaching thereof;
- the improvement of access to the University for students as well as foundational provision in extended programmes;
- graphic work, audiovisual loans and upgrading of lecture halls.
- service learning in formal academic programmes
CHESD provides these initiatives directed at students:
- Formal teaching programmes in Higher Education Studies which comprises:
- an advanced diploma
- a master's degree
- a doctoral degree
- The Career Preparation Programme for students from historically disadvantaged communities.
CHESD also renders the following services:

This is a specialised service which provides academic staff with information on higher education.
It functions as a library and provides a postal service on national level.
