Lesley-Ann Mathews received piano lessons from the age of five. After she matriculated at Potchefstroom Gymnasium she was awarded a B.Mus in piano performance at the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, in 2002, Cum Laude. Here she received master classes, from among others, Thomas Hecht, Caroline Oltmans and Joseph Banowitz. She acts as repetiteur for opera productions and worked as accompanist for the students of Werner Nel. Various prizes and scholarships are awarded to her during this study.
In 2005 she moved to Bloemfontein and obtained a M.Mus in chamber music under the guidance of Albie van Schalkwyk in 2007. In 2007 she also obtained a Licentiate (UNISA) in vocal accompaniment, Cum Laude.
In 2005 she was appointed as official accompanist at the University of the Free State. Here, she acts as accompanist and repetiteur for various productions and festivals. She has performed as soloist with the National Chamber Orchestra and the Odeion Sinfonia. She is currently working on a PhD in chamber music led by Professor Ruth Goveia
