Prof Theo Neethling and Dr Tanya Lyons, newly elected President of the Africa Studies Society of Australasia and the Pacific Ocean.

Prof Theo Neethling of our Department of Political Science recently delivered a research paper at the 34th conference of the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific hosted at the Flinders University City Campus in Adelaide, Australia.

The title of his paper was Ambiguity and Norm Dynamics in South African Foreign Policy: The case of the no-fly zone in Libya. His paper critically examined the official South African foreign policy stand and the African Union's continental role since the first NATO aerial attacks were launched on targets in Libya, until the killing of Muammar Gaddafi by Libyan rebels in October 2011.
