Who is DiMTEC?
DiMTEC is an academic and research centre located within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the University of the Free State in South Africa. At DiMTEC, we strive to educate the public on disaster risk reduction and resilience-building through the Postgraduate Diploma, Master's and PhD degrees in Disaster Management, short courses, and research.
Vision
To be an internationally recognised centre of excellence that uses a holistic approach to disaster management and focuses on training, education, interdisciplinary research, and projects.
Mission
To produce professionals in disaster management who actively contribute to disaster risk reduction in order to build resilience, as constituted in the United Nations, regional and national frameworks.
Main objective
To provide education and training to postgraduate students, and undertake research and projects related to disaster management in order to actively contribute to disaster risk reduction and community resilience, as constituted in the United Nations and other relevant frameworks.
In 2006, the centre became independent within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.
