The UFS seeks to distinguish itself as an institution that pursues the delivery of outstanding quality graduates and knowledge through academic excellence, diversity, inclusivity, and innovative and transformative thought.
We welcome all our first-year and senior students at the start of 2019.
First-year students: Admission process 2019
What can you expect from the UFS during December 2018 and January 2019?
• If you have received a conditional offer during 2018, you should also have received the Financial Agreement. Your parent, guardian or other third party has to complete and sign the Financial Agreement. Please upload the documents as per the instructions or alternatively email the documents to
tuitionfees@ufs.ac.za as soon as possible. Failure to do so, will delay your registration process.
• Once we receive the NSC results from Universities South Africa (USAf) by
4 January 2019, we re-evaluate all applications, including offers made. Final selection is subject to the availability of space, academic results, and other entry requirements where applicable. Kindly note that due to limited space, fulfilling all the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee acceptance to study at the UFS, or entrance into any particular programme offered by the UFS.
• Once all 2019 applications/admission offers have been reviewed, a confirming SMS will be sent to you during the course of January–February 2019, from as early as 8 January 2019 onwards. A letter will also be emailed to you to confirm whether you have been accepted for the specific programme (you will receive a letter for each programme applied for).
•
However, if you have not received communication from the UFS either by means of SMS or letter by 1 February 2019, you can assume that admission to the programmes you applied for, was not successful.First-year students: Admission-offer management process for the Faculty of Health Sciences
If you have received and accepted the conditional offer made to you in 2018 and have paid the acceptance fee to study a programme in the Faculty of Health Sciences, the final admission process that will take place from 8 January 2019 as described above, is not applicable to you. Kindly contact the Faculty of Health Sciences at +27 51 401 7513 | 7516 | 7517 if you require assistance.
First-year students: How to accept the offer online?
Should you receive communication constituting a final admission offer, you will be required to accept such offer within a specified time frame as set out in the correspondence constituting or communicating such final admission offer. Failure to accept a final admission offer within the prescribed time frame will result in automatic termination of such an offer upon expiry of the deadline.
The link to the online facility will be communicated to you in the SMS and letter as mentioned above, from 8 January 2019.
First-year students: Registration 2019
Registration is the process by which you formally register as a student at the UFS.
Kindly note that, upon acceptance of a fixed admission offer from the UFS, a registration information guide will be sent to you.
- Registration will take place according to a set schedule, which will be detailed in the registration information guide.
- Should you arrive for registration prior to the following dates, you will not be assisted with academic advice and will not be able to register during this period. Adhering to the specific dates for registration is therefore very important:
- From 25 January 2019 for all undergraduate programmes presented on the Bloemfontein Campus, daily between 08:00 and 15:00. No registration services will be available on 26 January 2019.
- From 28 January 2019 for all programmes presented on the Qwaqwa Campus.

Financial arrangements
For complete information on the first payments, accommodation fees, banking details and payment dates, visit the student finance webpage. To view a snapshot of the Registration Payments 2019 , click here.
First payments are due five (5) working days prior to registration. The first payment must reflect as a credit on your tuition-fees account.
If you are a self-funded student or have a partial bursary or loan, please note that a first payment is applicable five (5) working days prior to registration at the UFS. Should you neglect to pay the amount, you will not be able to register. The first payment must reflect as a credit on your tuition-fees account.
If you are a top achiever with a final AP score of 35 and higher, you will receive a UFS merit award according to the value that corresponds with your final AP score. This amount will be automatically credited to your tuition-fee account once you register. If the UFS merit award does not cover the first payment which is payable five (5) days prior to registration, you will have to pay the shortfall.
The first payment is not applicable if you (SA students only):
- Received a provisional offer from NSFAS for 2019
- Receive full financial aid (bursary/loan). Proof of the financial aid must be faxed to 051 401 3759 five (5) working days prior to registration. It is important that you present the original proof of the bursary/loan upon registration. Failure to do so, will delay your registration.
- Receive a UFS merit award that covers the whole amount of the first payment.
Housing and Residence (Accommodation)
First-year students: If you have applied to a residence on campus and have accepted the residence offer, you are reminded to pay the breakage deposit to the amount of R960. It is important to note that you will be finally admitted on your final NSC results. As the UFS has limited space in our on-campus residences, please note that payment of the breakage deposit does not guarantee final placement in an on-campus residence. Only pay the breakage deposit of R960 if you have received an accommodation offer.
Only first-year students who have received an accommodation offer and paid the breakage deposit of R960, will be allowed to move into residences on campus on:
- 19 January 2019: South Campus
- 25 January 2019: Bloemfontein Campus
- 27 January 2019: Qwaqwa Campus
To prepare you for residence life, visit the KovsieLife website.
If you want to check your application status for an on-campus residence, you can send an email to VKhetha@ufs.ac.za (male residences) or RamsoomarM@ufs.ac.za (female residences). Use your student number as the reference number.
If you did not apply or did not receive an offer for placement in an on-campus residence, and therefore need to source off-campus accommodation, please visit the list of accredited off-campus accommodation close to the campus.
