Community Engagement and the Human Project

The mission of the UFS rests on two pillars – the Academic Project and the Human Project. The Community Engagement Programme is therefore designed to contribute towards advancing the UFS’s Human Project.

  • In the Academic Project we want to ensure that future generations will have a university that they can go to that takes academics seriously.
  • The Human Project sets the standard for good behaviour and care. It reaches internally to our students and externally to our prospective students and our communities.

We form partnerships with other institutions in order to achieve the following:

  • Creating opportunities for students to acquire academic skills and knowledge.
  • Developing the spirit of service within the university.
  • Providing opportunities for students to become active and positive contributors to society.
  • Exposing and teaching students about diversity, multiculturalism, and different ways of thinking and doing.
  • Helping students to acquire social, political and civic awareness.
  • Encouraging creative and critical thinking as well as problem-solving skills.
  • Contributing towards students acquiring of sound character and self-esteem that allows them to understand, accept and respect themselves and others.
