The struggle of what to pack for lunch has come to an end. No more fast foods as an easy escape or mixing unhealthy ingredients to make a supposed ‘wholesome’ meal for your family. Dietician Angelique Carson-Port was only too glad to open up to UFS staff about easy and filling dishes they could prepare.

One firstly has to make small adjustments. Angelique shared and demonstrated how staff members could still enjoy their favourite meals with less fat, calories and sugars. One can even still enjoy the same great taste, as many people live with the misconception that ‘clean’ food tends to lack the great taste.

The key to these recipes is ensuring that you have a variety of portions. Especially when cooking meals for your family or planning meals for the day. It’s essential to serve five portions of vegetables each day, while meals should be kept light during the day. These would include your salads, fruits and snacks, like popcorn. This class also helped staff members learn to prepare parcels that would ensure they never skip meals throughout the day. This often results in individuals either eating more than the necessary portions or choosing heavy foods that tend to be filling.

Angelique finally closed off with a few easy-to-make desserts, which are a perfectly well-deserved cheat if one has been eating clean and staying committed to a healthy diet. What is also lovely about these dessert recipes, is that one can choose to manipulate ingredients by reducing the amount of sugar or replacing butter with margarines.

It served attendees a great deal to be able to witness how easy it is to make adjustments to their recipes.
