Church History and Ecclesiology
General Information
The subject Ecclesiology consists of two components;
- Church History and
- Church Law.
Church History is divided into General and Fatherland (South African) Church History, including Missiological History, Ecumenical Studies (relations among churches), and Dogmatic History. This history is studied with theological understanding and discrimination; therefore Historiography or the science of Church-History Writing is of the greatest importance.
Church Law is the study of issues such as church offices, church meetings, church denominations, and church discipline, the activities and relations of the church – and how these aspects have evolved historically and what they should be like in terms of the Scriptures.
