Prof Champion Nyoni, is an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing of the University of the Free State. He is an NRF rated researcher who has published within the field of health professions education. His research focuses on developing a competent health workforce within low-resource settings. Specifically, he is engaged in research within the transfer of learning niche area- where he focuses on interprofessional education, curriculum development, faculty development, assessment and teaching and learning. He supervises masters and doctoral candidates within nursing and health professions education at the UFS and collaborates globally in his research interests.
Prof Nyoni serves on numerous education and healthcare related boards. He is the current Chairperson and Facilitator of the Africa Interprofessional Education Network (AfrIPEN) and also Chairperson of the board of directors of the Association for Health Professions Education and Leadership (AHPEL). In addition, he serves as an associate editor for the African Journal for Health Professions Education (AJHPE), Health Professions Education & Research (HPER) and BMC Medical Education. His work has been recognised nationally and globally- he is the recipient of the emerging Scholar/Researcher award from the Sigma (a global honour society for nurses)- making him only the third African to win this prestigious award.
