Prof Henning Pieterse - Tussen die abjekte en die eteriese.

The launch of a new book by Prof Henning Pieterse, Tussen die abjekte en die eteriese. ‘n Keur uit die poësie van Michel Houellebecq, took place on Thursday 21 June 2018 in the Centenary Complex at the UFS.

During the launch Dr Francois Smith conducted an interview with Prof Pieterse regarding the origin and development of the publication. Albertus Barkhuizen (staff member at the French section) read a number of the original French poems, followed by readings of their Afrikaans versions by Prof Pieterse.

The book is available at R260 from the publishers.

The Penguin Random House prize for the best student in creative writing within the first year of MA studies in 2017 was awarded to Adél Steyn.

Prof HP van Coller announced as ATKV|SA Akademie Prize winner.

Prof HP van Coller has been named as one of eight winners of the ATKV|SA Akademie Prizes for 2018. Every year the ATKV (Afrikaans Language and Culture Association) sponsors prize money to award articles published in Afrikaans and that appeared in an accredited journal of the respective year. This year six prizes were made available for articles in the humanities, and two for articles in natural sciences. The Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns was responsible for the reviewing process. Articles that appeared in 2016 have been taken into consideration for this year’s prizes.

Prof Van Coller was honoured for his article T.T. Cloete as literary critic, theorist and literary historian (Part 2): T.T. Cloete as literary-historical theorist as was published in Literator - Journal of Literary Criticism, Comparative Linguistics and Literary Studies, 2016.

Dr Cilliers van den Berg, head of the German section at UFS, has been named as one of eight winners of the ATKV|SA Academy Prizes for 2018. The South African Academy for Science and Art was responsible for the reviewing process. Articles that appeared in 2016 have been taken into consideration for this year’s prizes.

Dr Cilliers van den Berg was honoured for two articles: Histerie en Perversie (deel II): 'Slagofferskap' in Der Nazi & der Friseur (Edgar Hilsenrath) and 'De joodse messias' (Arnon Grunberg) which appeared in the Tydskrif vir Geesteswetenskappe, Jg. 56 (3), September 2016 and Mimesis soos beredeneer deur Philippe Lacoue-Labarthe: 'Horrelpoot' (2006) deur Eben Venter as herskrywing van Joseph Conrad se 'Heart of darkness' which appeared in LitNet Akademies Jg. 13 (2), 2016.
