The Free State Arts Festival

The Free State Arts Festival is one of South Africa’s leading cultural festivals, celebrated for its rich programme of theatre, music, dance, visual arts, and literature. Through a longstanding partnership with the University of the Free State, the International Institute of the Arts (IIA) collaborates with the festival to support local talent, foster creative exchange, and expand access to the arts. Among the initiatives incubated by the festival and now incorporated by the IIA are the Free State Arts and Health Programme, which uses creative practice to promote well-being and community connection, and the Pan African Creative Exchange (PACE), a platform that amplifies African voices globally. 

Pan-African Creative Exchange 

The Pan African Creative Exchange (PACE) is a biennial arts market and showcase that connects contemporary artists from Africa and the African diaspora with international presenters, producers, and curators. It features performances, works in progress, exhibitions, and networking sessions that build opportunities for collaboration and creative growth across disciplines. PACE plays a vital role in expanding the global presence of African arts and supporting artists in developing sustainable international partnerships. Now supported by the International Institute of the Arts (IIA), it continues to strengthen cultural exchange and creative innovation.

Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles

The International Institute of the Arts (IIA) partners with the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles (CRB) to foster intercultural exchange and support emerging talent. Through joint projects, workshops, and performances, the collaboration connects artists and students across disciplines, broadens international engagement, and strengthens creative networks. Together, CRB and the IIA advance high-quality arts education while promoting vibrant, interconnected artistic communities.
