The popular soprano Aviva Pelham returns to Bloemfontein for a concert with the Free State Symphony Orchestra on 17 August in the Odeion. Aviva Pelham is one of South Africa's most gifted and loved artists. Her dynamism and versatility have made her one of South Africa's most popular singers. She sings an exceptionally wide range of music from the repertoire of opera, musicals, operetta, oratorio and cabaret.

In the tradition of the Last Night at the Proms, will mainly consist of popular light-classical music including Pomp and Circumstance March (Elgar), Jerusalem, Entrance of the Queen of Sheba (Handel), Sailors Hornpipe and the Overture to HMS Pinafore (Sullivan).  The audience will be invited to join in the singing. Flags, balloons and party poppers are all welcomed. The main work in the first half will be Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals with OSM lecturer Dana Cilliers and one of his top students William Earl as the piano soloists and Pelham as the narrator.

The FSSO will be conducted by Alexander Fokkens.
