Tanya Scherman has a BA in Education and is currently completing her honours degree in Curriculum Studies. She plans to continue with her master’s degree in 2017. Tanya is involved in academic staff development in the CTL. She is responsible for developing and coordinating staff development activities related to teaching and learning, specifically assessment, curriculum design, teaching practice and career management. She provides support to academic staff with regard to teaching and learning and assessment, particularly with improvement of student performance. She also coordinates the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards and liaises between the CTL and faculties, ensuring that teaching and learning policies are developed and implemented correctly. She has assisted in training tutors and teaching facilitators (TAs) and presented sessions based on improving facilitation skills to both teaching assistants and tutors across campus. She has consulted in module and assessment design. One of her main interests is broadening the connection between university lecturers/facilitators and students to create open communication lines and equal platforms for all parties. She feels strongly about training and shaping lecturers and facilitators into valued educators of society who have much to offer their prospective employers and students.
