Short CV

Eleanor Bernard obtained a BA Degree Cum Laude in 2007 at the University of the Free State, with Journalism, English and Afrikaans as her majors. She served on the Student Representative Council in 2008 as the editor-in-chief of the IRAWA, Kovsies’ student newspaper. In the same year she finished her BA Honores in Language Studies, followed by a MA in Language Studies in 2009. Other qualifications and forms of personal development include a diploma in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), the completion of the ALHE (Assessment for/of Learning in Higher Education) and Fundamentals of Faculty Development (UMass Amherst) courses. Her research in Teaching and Learning on the Qwaqwa campus has served her with two Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards.

Her work experience includes positions as Assistant Officer to the Afrikaans Academic Literacy coordinator, facilitator in Afrikaans and English literacy, Junior Lecturer in Afrikaans linguistics, and Junior Lecturer to newly implement, coordinate and research a General English Literacy Course on the Qwaqwa campus. She was appointed as the Lecturer/Researcher and coordinator of Academic Staff Development on the Qwaqwa campus from 2016-2019. She is currently appointed as Assistant Director for the Centre for Teaching and Learning, QQ campus.
