Prof Dr AC (Adriaan) Neele

Adriaan Neele serves as Research Scholar, and Digital Editor in the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University, and as Professor Historical Theology and Director in the Jonathan Edwards Centre Africa at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa.

Prior to arriving at Yale in 2007, he lectured in Post-reformation studies in Montreal, Canada at Farel Reformed Theological Seminary, and in Pretoria, South Africa, at the University of Pretoria, and African Institute for Missiology. In addition, he is co-editor of the Jonathan Edwards Online journal – an internationally peer-reviewed scholarly journal, co-editor of the Jonathan Edwards Encyclopedia (Yale University/Wm. Eerdmans Publishers), and co-editor of the global Edwards sermon edition project. His research interest concerns 17th century European as well as early American (18th century New England) theology and philosophy. Furthermore, as co-founder of a foundation for internet-based and global theological education, he has a continuing interest in the intersection of primary sources, digitisation, and web-based education (blended learning). He is the author of two books, The Art of Living to God (Pretoria University Press, 2005), and Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706) Reformed Orthodoxy: Method and Piety (Leiden, Boston: Brill, 2009) and various articles, including: "John Calvin (1509-1564)" and "Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1730): Continuities and Discontinuities in Biblical exegesis"; "The Theoretico-Practica Motive as Framework for the Theology of Cotton Mather (1663-1728)"; "Trans-Atlantic exchanges: Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) in New England, Scotland and The Netherlands"; "Post-reformation Reformed Sources and Children"; "Johannes à Marck 1656-1731: Theoloog van de Schrift (Dutch)", "Een bizonder boek vir een bizonder collectie" (Afrikaans); Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706) in Biographisch-Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon (German). Forthcoming is his book Jonathan Edwards: Sources of New England Theology(Oxford University Press).
