Units/Super Specialisation:

Unit for Human Reproduction This unit functions as a tertiary unit, which manages tertiary level patients presenting with infertility. All patients seen in this unit are referred from either a secondary hospital or a private practicing medical specialist. All levels of infertility management are offered at this unit including induction of ovulation, artificial insemination (AI), gamete intra fallopian transfer (GIFT), in vitro fertilization (IVF), intra cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), freezing of gametes and embryos, surgical reconstruction of pelvic organs (endoscopy as well as open surgery). All programmes are also duplicated in a donor programme. The professional management team of the Unit for Human Reproduction consists of two gynaecologists, two professional nurses, one medical scientist, three clinical technologists, a social worker, a clinical psychologist, a pastoral therapist and two administrative personnel. Other specialties are consulted when indicated. The Unit functions on a 7 day per week basis and post graduate students working in the Unit are exposed to all levels of infertility care. They also get a good exposure to diagnostic endoscopy with the aim of infertility diagnostics. Diagnostic ultrasound also forms a major part of the management of the patients in the Unit for Human Reproduction. 

Gynaecological Endoscopy 

Gynaecological endoscopy and endoscopic surgery is offered on a tertiary level to patients attending this clinic. All forms of gynaecological endoscopy including laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and salpingostomy is practised in this Unit. Regarding –gynaecological endoscopy surgery all different types are offered, including blunt dissection, sharp dissection, electro cautery and CO2-laser surgery. Registrars working in this Unit are exposed to all these levels of endoscopic surgery themselves. After completing their training in this Unit they should be able to perform good diagnostic endoscopy, managing ovarian cysts, tubal sterilization, ectopic pregnancy, adhesiolysis and endometriosis up to Grade III. All patients attending this clinic are referred from secondary care level hospitals as well as private practicing specialists.
