The SARChI Chair in Higher Education and Human Development Research Programme has a full-time, two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship available for research on youth and higher education studies. This is exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and productive research group is open to hard-working and motivated applicants. The award must be taken up by March 2024.

The successful applicant will be expected to live in Bloemfontein when not conducting fieldwork.

The annual stipend is ZAR 270 000,00 (non-taxable) which includes ZAR 30 000,00 towards research expenses.  A further one-off conference grant of ZAR 25 000 is available each year. The stipend is paid quarterly.

Applicants are expected to undertake research and to publish on higher education. They will also contribute to the research activities and the culture of the higher education and human development research group. They are expected to apply for external funding, for example towards international conference attendance.

Criteria

Applicants must: 1) hold a PhD degree awarded in the last five years in the social sciences or humanities: education, sociology, development studies, history, politics, philosophy, geography, psychology; 2) normally be under 45 years of age; 3) have prior experience of presenting research papers at conferences and/or seminars; and, 4) have some organizational or administrative experience, for example organizing webinars.  Ideally, applicants will already have had papers prepared and/or accepted for publication and/or secured a book contract with a reputable publisher.

The fellowship is intended for: 1) early career researchers; 2) under the age of 45 years; 3) not in full-time academic employment; and 4) within three to five years of having completed a PhD.
