Martino Mazinga holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Literature from the University of Malawi, Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Philosophy and Diploma (Dip) in Philosophy from St Joseph’s Institute in South Africa. Martino has just completed his second master’s degree, Master's in Development Studies (MDS) with the University of the Free State (UFS). Martino did some part-time lecturing with the University of Malawi (UNIMA) and Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA) for one year. Since 2009, Martino has been working with rural communities in Malawi on integrated community development projects in the areas of livelihoods, governance, human rights, gender and women's empowerment, climate change and disaster risk reduction, environment and natural resources management, water, hygiene and sanitation and training for transformation. Before taking up the Doctoral Research Fellowship, Martino was the Head of the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi – Caritas Malawi, a relief and development arm of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi.

Research Area: Martino's area of research interest, in his doctoral studies, falls within the broader discourse of Higher Education and Rural Development. He aspires to undertake a public-good capability analysis of the Public Universities’ role in rural development in Malawi; conceptualizing their relevance to rural development and graduate formation for the rural development agenda.
