Jean - Paul Pophaim is currently employed as a Lecturer at the Department of Criminology at the University of the Free State. After matriculating from Northern Cape High School, in Kimberley, he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies (M.Soc.Sc. with specialisation in Criminology) at the University of the Free State. His research interests include issues pertaining to the experiences of victimisation among vulnerable victim groups, specifically members of the homeless population. He is also responsible for lecturing modules in various fields of specialisation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, which include Penology, Selected Issues in Criminology and supervision of Honours research projects. At present, he is also working towards obtaining his doctorate qualification in Criminology.

His academic interest is focused on issues pertaining to the experiences of victimisation among vulnerable victim groups, specifically the homeless population.
