Short CV

Arlys van Wyk is an Adjunct Professor in the CTL. She has degrees in English (Honours) and Applied Linguistics (MA) from the UFS; a higher diploma in Library Science and a diploma in Special Education from Unisa; a TEFL Diploma from the University of Cape Town; and a PGCE from the UFS. She has a post-graduate diploma in Freelance Journalism from the London School of Journalism. She obtained a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the UFS and a postgraduate diploma in Media Education from the University of Southampton.

She was responsible for Academic Literacy Development at the UFS from 1996 to 2016 and is currently involved in a project which aims to develop multilingualism as a pedagogical approach. She also coordinates the establishment of a MA TESOL qualification at the UFS.

Her research interests are academic literacy, student epistemological access, multilingualism as a pedagogical approach, second language acquisition, language development and linguistic diversity.
