Dr Marlie van Rooyen is a senior lecturer in Translation Studies in the Department of Linguistics and Language Practice at the UFS. She serves as the Programme Director for the Bachelor of Arts with specialisation in Language Practice. Marlie holds a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Leuven in Belgium. The topic of her thesis was: "Tracing the translation of community radio news in South Africa: An actor-network approach". She teaches translation theory and practice on undergraduate and postgraduate level and is responsible for the supervision of postgraduate students in Translation Studies. Marlie is the newly elected vice-president of the Association of Translation Studies in Africa (ATSA). Her main research interests are journalism and translation, the sociology of translation, non-professional interpreting and translation, and translation/interpreting education and training.
