Passion Music In Context
Lutheran Church
Sunday 7 April 2019
15:30
The Christian observance of Lent, which culminates in Good Friday, has led to the creation of various chorales based on Lenten texts; it is this liturgical period that is credited for inspiring the greatest number of chorale preludes for organ. The purpose of this concert is to exhibit Baroque and Neo-Baroque examples of the form, as well as two sacred vocal works by Schütz, all of which were composed with a view to Lent. These will be contextualized within a historically appropriate setting.
Jan Beukes (organ) and Albertus Engelbrecht (tenor) will be performing with narration by Fr. Phillip Vietri, Nicol Viljoen and Martina Viljoen.
You are cordially invited to this unique event.
