PHD Admission Requirements
In addition to the requirements as presented in 1.4 under General Information in the Rule Book of the Faculty of the Humanities, the following requirements apply:
- (i) The candidate must be in possession of a MA Exit Level 9 qualification in Political Science.
- (ii) A minimum of 65% for the dissertation, or 70% for a mini-dissertation, must have been obtained.
- (iii) Admission is subject to departmental approval. In addition to their formal studies, students are expected to take part in conferences, seminars and lectures by visiting speakers.
POLS9100: Doctoral thesis (PhD)
If a candidate’s application satisfies the prerequisites for a Ph.D. and the candidate has been accepted by the Departmental Chairperson, a topic is chosen by the candidate in consultation with the supervisor. Candidates formally present a research proposal and if approved by the department, write a thesis on the approved topic.
In addition to their formal studies (Thesis in Political Science), students are expected to take part in conferences, seminars and lectures by visiting speakers.
