The Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Office
Reports to the Vice Chancellor: Institutional Change; Student Affairs, and Community Engagement. The Gender Equality and Anti-discrimination Office is a part of the Unit for Institutional Change and Social Justice and aims to serve the staff and students of the UFS.
The GEAD in particular is part of the Student experience work stream (3A) as well as the work stream on Student accommodation and residence culture in the Institutional Transformation Plan (ITP). Through these work streams the GEAD intends by the implementation of its SART and Sexual Harassment Policy to proactively create safe spaces for student experience. Thereby also advocating for a university culture that is inclusive, humanising and socially just. Through the participation of all clients in conscientisation workshops.
Vision
Create a socially inclusive university through institutional change; and conduct research on high impact practices for and advocacy.
Mission
Handle incidents of unfair discrimination and Gender Based Violence and conduct advocacy and training on the above.
Located on all three University of the Free State campus; namely Bloemfontein, Qwaqwa, and South Campus.
