LPRC1512: First-year

In 2013, the Law Clinic took over the responsibility of hosting the annual Kovsie first-year moot-court competition. The set of facts used in the competition forms part of the module content of LPRC1512 and serves to inculcate the following skills and competencies in all students enrolled for the module, namely professional conduct and ethics, legal research, legal analysis, writing, and advocacy. Each student is expected to draft heads of arguments on the moot-court problem for the specific year. The heads of arguments form part of the formative assessment in the module and benefit the student to the extent that it is required of the entire first-year class to research, analyse, and prepare a draft based on the problem presented. Students from all the competing universities are also exposed to the moot problem, and although only a few students represent their respective universities at the competition, it is safe to assume that many more students are exposed to the moot problem as part of the internal selection rounds.
