Serges Djoyou Kamga is a full Professor of Human Rights Law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He is currently the Vice President of the ANCL (Central Africa Region). He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Constitutional Lawyers. Prof Kamga previously worked at the Thabo Mbeki African School of Public and International Affairs (UNISA), the Centre for Human Rights (University of Pretoria) and at the South African Institute for Advanced Constitutional Law (SAIFAC), a Centre of the University of Johannesburg. His research over the years demonstrates a profound and sustained commitment to advancing knowledge about human rights in Africa, especially on the right to development in the African human rights system, human rights from cross cultural perspectives and disability rights. His research also includes illicit financial flows and their impact on human rights in Africa. He is the author/editor/co-editor of 10 books and 70 articles/book chapters. Prof Kamga has received several research grants and awards including the prestigious Ali Mazrui Award for Scholarship and Research Excellence for 2021.

I am a NRF Rated Law Professor with over 23 years’ experience in academia and specialising in various aspects of human rights law. I have both a BProc and LLB degrees from the then University of Natal, Durban and a Doctorate from Unisa. My most recent qualification is the CrteDE from the University of Maryland in Washington.

In addition to my contributions to the teaching and learning environment, I have published widely in accredited journals, spoken at several national and international conferences and been recognized through various awards. In pursuance of engaged scholarship initiatives, I sit as chair and a member of different committees, boards and non-profits organisations.  

I am an admitted Advocate and since 2019 I sit on occasion, as an Acting Judge in various divisions of the High Court of South Africa. Most recently I have been appointed as an Acting Judge of the Limpopo Division of the High Court. As an academic, advocate and part-time member of the judiciary, I find myself in a unique position to pursue amongst other goals advocacy initiatives, social justice and reform, access to justice and constitutional transformation initiatives from different platforms.

Dr Jacques Matthee is a Senior Lecturer, Programme Director: LLB and Teaching & Learning and Acting Vice-Dean in the Faculty of Law at the University of the Free State. He researches and lectures in Criminal law, Legal Pluralism, African Customary law, and Medical Law. His research focuses on the conflict between culture, religion, and crime, leading to several publications. He presented his research at several conferences and is involved in projects on legal pluralism. Apart from law, he is keenly interested in higher education teaching and learning. He spent most of his academic career developing teaching and learning in law. He contributed his teaching and learning knowledge and experience to educational textbooks in law. He has attended and presented at many teaching and learning courses, workshops, and conferences, particularly on blended and innovative teaching and learning. He has led and participated in several teaching and learning projects. He is currently establishing a research focus area on teaching and learning in law. Apart from academia, Dr Matthee is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa. He is a former member of the National Bar Council of South Africa and a former associate member of the National Forum of Advocates.
