Dr Brenda Kombo

Brenda K Kombo holds a BA (Hampshire College), MPhil (Yale), PhD (Yale), and JD (Northeastern). Her postdoctoral fellowship follows several years of work with non-governmental organisations in the human-rights field, primarily at the African continental level. Previous positions include research fellowships at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s African Centre for Gender and Social Development and Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Yale Fox International Fellow Program). Broadly, her research interests are in legal anthropology, human rights, and international law. Current projects explore the ways various African actors engage with or reject international human rights law in different struggles and consider the attendant transformative possibilities, with particular focus on family code reform and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
