Dr Isolde de Villiers

Isolde de Villiers holds the degrees LLB, LLM, LLD (all from the University of Pretoria). She was born in the economic capital, completed her studies in the administrative capital, finished her articles of clerkship in the legislative capital and now finds herself in the judicial capital of South Africa. Her main area of research lies in jurisprudence and she focuses on spatial justice from a feminist perspective. Prior to her appointment as a postdoctoral fellow at the FSCHR, she was a senior lecturer at the University of Pretoria from 2011-2018, where she taught first-years Jurisprudence and Roman Law and an elective, Law and Community, to final-years. She completed her doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof Karin van Marle, with the title of her thesis: Law, Spatiality and the Tshwane Urban Space, looking at the role that gender plays in the production and reproduction of city spaces with specific focus on the City of Tshwane/Pretoria. Currently her focus falls on overlooked cities.
