Who is DiMTEC?

At DiMTEC we strive to educate the public on disaster risk reduction through the master's degree in disaster management, short courses, and research.

Vision

To be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in disaster management training, education, and research in Africa.

Mission

To produce professionals in disaster management in order to actively contribute to disaster risk reduction efforts as constituted in the United Nations’ Hyogo Declaration of January 2005.

Main objective

To provide training to postgraduate students and undertake research in disaster management in order to actively contribute to the disaster risk reduction efforts as constituted in the United Nations’ Hyogo Declaration of January 2005.

History

Our first course was approved and registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) in 2001, and in 2002 we were established in the Department of Agricultural Economics with the vision of becoming an independent centre as soon as possible.

In 2006, the centre became independent within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.
