Professor Abiodun Ogundeji is an astute and versatile academic leader, applied economist; currently serving as the Academic Head of the Department (Director) at the Disaster Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC) at University of the Free State, South Africa. He has 15 years of experience gained working for the academic, national, and international organizations. He is a National Research Foundation (NRF) South Africa-rated researcher, holding a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of the Free State (UFS), Bloemfontein, South Africa. Professor Ogundeji previously held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics. In this role, he facilitated classes and supervised master’s, Ph.D., and postdoctoral candidates. His extensive research involvement includes collaboration with international and local organizations as a project leader and principal investigator. Notably, he served as a research fellow at the Social Protection Department of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Rome - Italy. His scholarly contributions encompass over 70 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and numerous conference presentations.

 

Professor Ogundeji`s current leadership role as Director involves directing the 18 academic and non-academic staff of the center to establish DiMTEC as a global centre of excellence and a leader in the discipline vis-a-vis competing international entities. His current research initiatives aim to assist various stakeholders in adapting to extreme climate events, thereby promoting food security and sustainable food production. He also contributed to the development of scenarios for future agricultural water use in South Africa. Renowned for his robust economic research and analytical abilities, he possesses a distinguished background in development and environmental economics. Professor Ogundeji has garnered recognition for his research endeavours through accolades received at national and international conferences.
