Short CV

I started my geological career in 1995 as a junior geologist with Hennie Blignault and Associates, an exploration company for whom I did work in Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania which included core logging (diamond drill, percussion drill and heavy sands), soil sampling, feasibility studies, mine planning and mine development on relatively small scale.  In 1997 I joined the Council for Geoscience in the Upington office (Northern Cape) and spent the next nineteen years mainly on geological mapping and research of the Namaqua Metamorphic Province, map compilation, writing of map explanations, reports and articles.  Other activities included rendering geological assistance to local communities and farmers, development of the small scale mining industry in the Northern Cape, groundwater studies and co-operation with universities and other science institutions.  In 2017 I joined the University of the Free State as a senior lecturer and geological researcher, which is the position I still hold.
