A new lab and equipment for the new year for Tof SIMS 2012:

New Surface Characterisation equipment from PHI 2009:

The Department of Physics at our university recently received two instruments, the PHI700 Scanning Auger Nanoprobe and the PHI5000 XPS Versaprobe. These instruments, to the value of R23 million, will mainly be used for nanotechnology and contract research for the New National Nano-Surface Characterisation Facility (NNSCF).

Donation of surface science equipment from Max Planck Institute 2002:

The department received a donation of a SAM and XPS research apparatus from the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart, Germany. The department had to compete against other departments and institutes worldwide for the honour. Fortunately, the department's proposal was the best!! Bought new, this equipment would cost more than R10 million.

Refurbishment at Boyden 2001/2002:

The Boyden 1.52 m telescope was refurbished and a new CCD camera system was installed at a total cost of R1,78 million.
