Desmé Human received the Kenneth K Humphreys award for the most outstanding quantity surveying paper submitted by a student or young member from a member association of the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC), for the period 2006–2008. The paper was judged by the international referee as an excellent paper presented at an international congress.
The award was presented at a special prize-giving ceremony during the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) International and the 6th World Congress of the ICEC on Cost Engineering, Project Management, and Quantity Surveying, held in Toronto, Canada from 29 June to 2 July 2008.
This is the most prestigious international award of its kind.

Michael van der Merwe, a student from the Department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, received the Kenneth K Humphreys award for the most outstanding article in the field of quantity surveying written by a student or young practitioner from a member association of the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC), for the period 2010–2012.
The award was presented at a special prize-giving ceremony during the 8th World Congress of the ICEC on Cost Engineering, Project Management, and Quantity Surveying, held in Durban, South Africa from 24 to 27 June 2012.
This is the most prestigious international award of its kind and it is the second student from this department to receive the award since 2008.
Jaco Pieterse, another student from the Department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management, received honorary mention for his article in the field of project management.
