UFS Master's and Doctoral Bursaries 2022

The University of the Free State will be providing financial support (partial tuition fee) to master’s and doctoral students for the year 2022..

The funding is intended to support:

  • First-year research master’s and doctoral students;
  • Second-year research master’s and doctoral students who have submitted progress reports and made satisfactory progress;
  • Second-year structured master’s students registered for the mini-dissertation; and
  • Third-year doctoral students who have submitted progress reports with satisfactory progress (once-off funding).

Avacare Bursary 2022 

Avacare bursary for master's and doctoral students in chemistry and pharmacology

The University of the Free State (UFS), in partnership with Avacare, is pleased to announce a call for applications for the Avacare Bursary for full-time master’s and doctoral candidates in the chemistry and pharmacology disciplines.

Who can apply?

  • South African citizens.
  • Students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Students intending to register or registered at UFS for full-time master’s and doctoral studies.
  • The following disciplines are accepted for bursary support in 2022: Chemistry and Pharmacology.

What is covered?

Registration fees, tuition fees, accommodation, textbooks.

Application procedure
Eligible candidates should provide the following:

  • A 1-page cover letter by the candidate motivating her/his interest and suitability for the bursary.
  • A research proposal outlining the rationale, design, feasibility, plans for research translation as well as potential impact of the proposed research project.
  • An abridged curriculum vitae containing a full list of research outputs and other meritorious achievements.
  • A full academic transcript.
  • Certified copy of your South African identity document .
  • Signed application form.

2022 NRF Postgraduate Student Funding

The NRF Postgraduate Student Funding for the 2022 academic year is now open for applications. All continuing students who are eligible for a second or third year of funding must submit a progress report and not a new application.

To be eligible for selection for funding, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum academic average of 65% attained in the previous degree; and

  • Be 28, 30 and 32 years or younger for honours, master’s, and doctoral studies respectively, in the year of application, regardless of the first year of registration.

All interested postgraduate students must apply on the NRF Online Submission System by accessing the link: manual applications will be accepted.
