Only the brightest young minds can face the economics of change. In the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences we bring theory and practice together.

We are a dynamic and innovative faculty that effectively meets the demands and challenges of the fast-changing economic and management environment. The inputs from the private sector as well as the professional and general community were considered in the design of our programmes.

The faculty has five departments. Accounting | Business Management | Economics | Industrial Psychology | Public Administration and Governance.

Higher-certificate programmes

The Higher Certificate in Economic and Management Sciences (BCom and BAdmin study options) gives deserving school leavers, who have completed the National Senior Certificate or the National Certificate (Vocational) but do not meet mainstream or extended-degree admission requirements, the opportunity to access higher-education studies to perform themselves into degree studies.

We present the UFS Higher Certificate through a resource-based, student-centred teaching and learning approach. To help you reach your potential, we give you additional administrative and academic support for the best possible learning experience.

If you successfully complete the one-year Higher Certificate, you can apply for appropriate extended-degree studies at the UFS, or applicable degree studies at other higher-education institutions (subject to each institution’s requirements).

General admission requirements

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC), or a National Certificate: Vocational (NCV) Level 4, and an AP of either 18 for Higher Certificates, or 20 for UPP study options.
  • Four subjects on level 3 (40% to 49%).
  • Language of instruction on level 3 (40%) for all options.
