Institutional report
Participating universities and colleges receive an Institutional Report containing institution-specific results of all the surveys they chose to administer, i.e. SASSE, LSSE and BUSSE. Authorised persons from participating institutions can view their results via the password-protected institution interface.
SASSE’s participation agreements prevent institution-specific results being made public, but a sample report is available for review. A breakdown of each of the report sections is provided below. All data presented in the SASSE report are split into first-year/senior groups for comparison purposes, as well as compared to the participating universities for the specific year.
Summary of your institution’s key findings.
Engagement indicators provide a useful summary of the detailed information contained in your students’ SASSE responses. By combining responses to related SASSE questions, each engagement indicator offers valuable information about a distinct aspect of student engagement. Ten indicators, based on three to eight survey questions each (a total of 47 survey questions), are organised into four themes.
Due to their positive associations with student learning and retention, certain undergraduate opportunities are designated 'high-impact'. High-impact practices share several traits: They demand considerable time and effort, facilitate learning outside of the classroom, require meaningful interactions with staff and students, encourage collaboration with diverse others, and provide frequent and substantive feedback.
Unlike most questions on the SASSE survey, the questions relating to high-impact practices are not limited to the current academic year. Thus, seniors' responses include participation from prior academic years.
The Frequencies and Statistical Comparisons Report is based on information from all respondents for both your institution and your comparison institutions.
This section of the report provides an overview of the characteristics of your respondents. Your sample is compared with the total sample of students who responded nationally and with samples of similar institutional types.
The LSSE-SASSE Comparison report shows responses from both students and lecturers at your institution who completed SASSE and LSSE.

Using SASSE data
SASSE data is used in the following ways:
- To build on our understanding of students’ engagement;
- To identify aspects of the undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom that can be improved;
- To influence changes in policies and practices;
- To contribute to good practices in teaching and learning;
- To track institutional strategic goals;
- To identify the most prominent behaviours successful students engage in; and
- To contribute to an evidence-based culture in institutions.
