LISTEN: Article recording of Health Sciences Career Week 2023.

From 30 January to 3 February 2023, UFS Career Services hosted their annual Health Sciences Career Week. There is an increasing demand for and on health-service workers worldwide. Being aware of the various opportunities and being prepared for the world of health-service work is vital.

In-person attendance increased rapidly from the previous year, as senior and postgraduate students flocked to the various sessions. The sessions on purposeful living and LinkedIn were firm favourites. The state of your digital footprint will remain important for the foreseeable future, also for health-service workers. And with the growth of the passion economy, it only makes sense that you should be certain about your purpose. Combining a passionate purpose with a solid digital footprint will surely set you up for success.

The career week kicked off with a course on reputation management, followed by a panel discussion on diversity in the medical profession. Sessions on the relevance of pathology and interpersonal community collaboration were presented back-to-back on day two. On the last day, the career closet was on display, supporting students in looking professional during interviews. The career week concluded with an informative panel discussion on health and rehabilitation.

Feedback from attendees indicated that students appreciate and value the Career Weeks. For many, LinkedIn was an eye-opener, and some indicated that they have more certainty about their community service year after the event. One participant noted a need for financial management skills, which will definitely be included in subsequent Health Services Career Weeks. Look out for more communication from UFS Career Services to join their next event.

The state of your digital footprint will remain important for the foreseeable future, also for health-service workers.
