LISTEN: Article recording of Health Sciences Career Week 2022.

From 25 to 27 January 2022, UFS Career Services hosted their annual Health Sciences Career Week to help students prepare for the world of work. The sessions were presented in person and online, with most students still gravitating towards streaming sessions. The packed programme included relevant topics from industry leaders, sharing their inside knowledge with attendees.

On day one, students attended a crash course in CV-writing and using LinkedIn for professional progression, followed by a session on Personal Branding and Growth. In a time where specialist physicians are becoming Instagram influencers, you can no longer only rely on the title ‘doctor’.

Day two showcased parallel sessions unpacking nursing, health and rehabilitation, biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, and pathology as professions. Highly skilled and experienced panel members stripped these fields of its Hollywood glamour and gore, and honestly presented the possibilities of each. Nurses are no longer confined to hospitals, and biomedical scientists have been in the spotlight since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the globe.

On the last day of the event, students were guided through financial and business practices in their respective fields – learning how to make their profession work for them.

Participant feedback indicated that the content covered during the UFS Health Sciences Career Week provided new knowledge and motivation, opening a world of possibilities they had not consider before.

Look out for more communication from UFS Career Services to join their next intervention.
