LISTEN: Article recording of Economic and Management Sciences Career Week 2022.

From 14 to 18 March 2022, UFS Career Services hosted their annual Economic and Management Sciences Career Week to help students prepare for the world of work. Students appreciated the interaction with experts during in-person sessions and benefited tremendously from the event. “I am better off now than before attending,” one student remarked.

The programme kicked off with the ever-popular CV writing and interview skills crash course that was repeated later in the day due to high demand. Next up was a company presentation to give attendees a taste of what they could expect from the rest of the week: mind-blowing advice!

Tuesday and Thursday were packed with online sessions, concluding the fruitful week with an in-person LinkedIn workshop on the last day, followed by a talk on personal branding by an expert in the field.

Most students were astounded by the versatility of a career in finance and accounting, realising that a chartered accountant is not bound to auditing for eternity. There are many career options that require their meticulous nature and keen eye for detail, whereas the bigger picture economists can also pick from various sector specialisations. Entrepreneurship was unpacked, revealing the endless possibilities for someone with business acumen, while there are also abundant opportunities in the public sector.

Students appreciated the interaction with experts during in-person sessions and benefited tremendously from the event.

Participants mentioned that they were impressed that several speakers had a UFS academic background, and they also gained fresh ideas on how to colour their career paths. Look out for more communication from UFS Career Services to join their next intervention.
