The rest of the programme unpacked the legal field – ranging from the process of being admitted as an attorney, to staying motivated when the going gets tough. Student feedback indicated that they gained a lot of practical advice, including how to present yourself as a job seeker, where to market yourself, and how to impress the big firms. Many of the attendees also realised that preparing for a career entail much more than just getting qualified. You need to start engaging and networking while you are a student.
"Our laws and the application thereof need to keep up with technological, social, and economic advances, among others. This is an exciting time for legal experts."
Most students expressed the need for more such events on campus and appreciated the opportunity to make connections in the world of work. There was a suggestion to set up a simulated legal office to give students a glimpse of how such a system operates on a daily basis, indicating students’ interest in, and need to experience the world of work. Look out for more communication from UFS Career Services to join the next event.
