The Monitoring and Institutional Research (MIR) unit is responsible for the creation of an evidence-based environment for monitoring institutional performance and informing strategic direction. This involves research about the institution as a whole, research about our students, and research about our staff. Our current research foci include student and staff perceptions and experience, academic student performance, and institutional climate and culture.

Examples of MIR’s specific activities include the following:

  • Ad hoc and ongoing institutional research projects on, for example, student governance, the language policy, and institutional culture.
  • Monitoring and reporting, including environmental scanning, external reporting to the DHET, internal reporting to Council and top management, ongoing module evaluation and ad hoc self-assessments.
  • Enrolment planning, in collaboration with IIS and the Academic Planning (AP) unit of DIRAP.
  • Data analytics for student success, in collaboration with the Institutional Information Systems (IIS) units of DIRAP, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), ICT Services, and the Office of the Vice-Rector: Academic.

Please do not hesitate to contact the relevant staff members as indicated below should you have any queries about the work of MIR.
