The Health and Wellness Centre celebrated the month of May as a month of compassion, with various initiatives.

To create awareness on health-related issues and encourage staff and students to show compassion to those around them, a rose memorial was held in the gardens in front of the main building.

The 100 different coloured roses in the memorial each represented 2550 South Africans who had passed away during the past year. The different rose colours represented the 5 leading causes of death in SA namely HIV/AIDS, heart disease, and death due to a stroke, Tuberculosis and interpersonal violence. HIV & AIDS was the leading cause of death in 2011; 130 000 South Africans lost their lives due to this epidemic.
