The HIV and AIDS Office held an exhibition at the Thakaneng Bridge on 14 February 2013 as part of the annual STI and Condom week.

The aims of the campaign were to:

  • Support the National STI and Condom week campaign
  • Provide basic knowledge on various HIV prevention strategies, including:
    • Abstinence or the delay of sexual debut,
    • Being faithful to one sexual partner in marriage and monogamous relationships,
    • Being tested for HIV with your sexual partner,
    • Using condoms and dental dams correctly and consistently to prevent the spread of HIV and other STI’s,
    • Decreasing alcohol and drug intake,
    • Encouraging Medical Male Circumcision to decrease HIV transmission, and
    • Reducing the number of Multiple Concurrent Partners.

The campaign included exhibitions from the MOSAIC Men’s Health Initiative in Bloemfontein who focused on HIV prevention, care and support for Men who have Sex with Men (MSM’s) and the Hola Monna Medical Male Circumcision (MMC) Clinic in Pelonomi Hospital who provided students with information on the benefits of MMC in reducing HIV transmission.

Students were also given the opportunity to take part in the Spin challenge and the Condom in a box. The purpose of these activities is to emphasise the correct usage of both male and female condoms during intercourse, especially under the influence of alcohol and other substances. Information on the different types of condoms and their uses was also provided. Students also had the opportunity to make Valentine’s cards and have their pictures taken at the “Love Booth”.
