20 April 2026 - Kananelo’s plate on a typical Monday

Kananelo Neo Mahola shares what a typical Monday of eating looks like for her as a dietetics student. She starts her day in res around 07:00 with a quick breakfast of cornflakes, milk, and a teaspoon of brown sugar. Between lectures at the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, she has a mid-morning snack of a small packet of cheese-flavoured Nik Naks. Lunch at around 13:30 is a hearty meal of macaroni and mince with a little mayonnaise, prepared earlier using sunflower oil, onion, and green pepper, and enjoyed with a cup of Sprite. Dinner at 20:00 is the same meal as lunch, reflecting a practical cook-once approach that fits into her student routine.
