Sikhuthali Oliver Bonga is theatre practitioner and scholar who is based in Free State, Bloemfontein. By birth, Oliver resides in the Eastern Cape, Qumbu in Mthozela location. He matriculated in 2014 and enrolled in the University of the Free State, in BA Extended and outside his academic he was introduced into theatre arts, by means of auditions. His first professional production as an actor was Cry the Beloved Country (2017) where he performed Absalom Khumalo. The production was part of the Incubator program of PACOVS. During the same time, Oliver enrolled in the University of the free state Drama and theatre arts department. In the three years of his drama degree Oliver had written, directed, and performed in professional productions, with one showcasing at the NAF (2019), Vryfees fringe program of 2019. Finally, at the end of 2019 Oliver received two awards from the Drama and Theatre Arts department: Best Theatre Making Student; and Most Artistic student. In this regard he was drawn into the academic world of Drama and theatre Arts, that he enrolled for his honour’s degree (2020) specialising in theatre making and playwriting. This enrolment rewarded Oliver with a professional theatre production, that showcased in the JITDF2020 festival in Bloemfontein, where the production received an award of recognition. Finally, in 2022 Oliver is practicing his craft in interdisciplinary practice, collaborating with international and both local artists while pursuing his master’s degree in Immersive Theatre at the University of the Free State, Drama and theatre Arts Department.
