1. Ambassador - UFS Rhodes Scholarship Trust Ambassador (2020-2023)

2. Member - editorial board of Insight Physics journal http://insight.piscomed.com/index.php/IP/about/editorialTeam

3. External Examiner -

  1. University of Botswana (2006-present)
  2. Medical University of South Africa (formerly Medunsa – Pretoria Campus): 2006-2008
  3. NWU (Mafikeng Campus): 2012 –present
  4. School of Physics & Chemistry (UKZN): 2020 and ongoing
  5. University of Limpopo

Over the years I also received a number of Certificates of Appreciation from various centers in appreciation of my contributions to their operation and smooth-running. Most notably,

  1. University of Botswana Library –for the efficient C++ software program that I wrote to convert the archaic TinLib Database to the new Innopac System, August 1999.
  2. Sol Plaatje Primary School (Mafikeng) – certificate awarded for configuring their media laboratory into a huge success – 2005.
  3. Mmabatho High School (Mafikeng) – certificate awarded for co-supervision of High School Project that excelled in Provincial Science fair – February 2006.

I have also engaged societal structures, such as Maluti-a-Phofung (MAP) Water, to sensitize them about our capabilities in supporting their governance through innovations. In particular, I promoted the telemetry patent to them in 2008 in anticipation of the water and electricity crisis that MAP now faces.

Other engagements have included local companies interested in low-cost energy solutions, particularly solar, and schools. With the latter, I actively run the Bayers Naude/Kagiso Schools “Dinaledi” project through 2008. I was in charge of four local Free State, schools (Dikwena, Moteka, Tsebo and Reahola), with the mandate to advise the organization on the best methods to upgrade and maintain their physical sciences. A report in the terminal year of the project indicated that this intervention resulted in a dramatic improvement of the matric pass rate. In two cases (Moteka and Reahola High Schools), it went from the low thirties to almost 100%. Other schools with which I have been involved in similar capacities are Tsholo High School (Qwaqwa), New Horizon College (Harrismith) and Harrismith High School (Intabazwe, Harrismith).

Other activities in which I contributed to the academic project beyond the UFS include:

I have chaired selection-committees for various academic faculty positions, for instance, for the selection of the following posts:

i.          Electronics Technician (NWU, Academic Development Centre 2004)

ii.         Physics Lecturer - Science Foundation 2005: (NWU)

iii.        Mathematics Lecturer - Science Foundation 2005: (NWU)

iv.        Biology Lecturer - Science Foundation 2005: (NWU)

v.         Chemistry Lecturer - Science Foundation 2005: (NWU)
