Who is the Division of Virology?

The Division of Virology provides the following in virology:

  • a quality virological diagnostic and clinical service 
  • education and specialised training in virology
  • research in virology

Mission

It is the responsibility of the Division of Virology to:

  • provide excellent diagnostic and support services to patients, the community, and academic/clinical colleagues in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
  • implement new techniques and methods where available and applicable
  • interact and collaborate with technical, academic and research staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences, and nationally and internationally.
  • train and educate medical technologists, undergraduate medical (M.B.Ch.B.) students, post-graduate medical and science students, and students from the Schools of Clinical Medicine and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Optometry)

Vision

The Division of Virology strives to produce through appropriate and quality training, medical technologists, scientists, lecturers and clinical staff who, after completion of their studies and educational development, will be able to fill positions as part of the workforce in society in such a manner that their knowledge, skills, attitude and behavior will be a positive reflection on the reputation of the division.

The division devotes to provide equal opportunities for all members of staff to improve/develop their experience, knowledge, skills as well as grow professional attitude and behavior.

The division strives to render technical, diagnostic and support services to patients and clinical staff that is of a high standard that is always beneficial to patients and their attending physicians.

The division aspires to be involved with and initiate research projects and produce research results of a standard that will contribute to promoting the division as an institute of excellence prepared to form partnerships/agreements with national and international institutions for the ultimate advantage of the community, patients, students, clinicians, and scientists.
