A: The Criminology programme at the UFS critically engages with justice, crime, and victimisation on the African continent, celebrating judicial pluralism and promoting social justice to address past injustices and advance nation-building.

A: The admission requirements for the Criminology programme include a National Senior Certificate with appropriate subject combinations certified by Umalusi, possessing a National Senior Certificate (Vocational) with the correct subjects and achievement levels, attaining a minimum admission point (AP) of 30, and an achievement level of no less than 4 (50% - 59%) for the school-leaving examination in English or Afrikaans. 

A: The Criminology programme prepares students by critically engaging with issues related to crime, justice, and victimisation, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to develop and evaluate policies, programmes and strategies aimed at addressing conflict, deviance, and victimisation. 

A: Graduates can pursue careers related to assessing conflict and crime risks, developing and analysing policies related to deviance and victimisation, working with victims of crime and abuse of power, evaluating the functioning of justice systems, providing expert evidence in court, and engaging in restorative justice processes. They can also explore roles in research and academia. 

A: The programme engages critically with the study of crime and victimisation, which are known to have severe consequences for society, the economy, and ecology. By providing education and expertise in criminology, it equips students to develop and implement strategies, policies and interventions aimed at mitigating the negative effects of crime and victimisation on these aspects of society. 

A: To be eligible for the Honours Programme in Criminology, students should have an Exit Level 7 qualification degree containing 96 credits in Criminology. Additionally, they need a Bachelor's Degree at Exit Level 7 with an average mark of at least 60%. They must also have a mark of at least 65% in the research proposal for CRIM 3714 and should have passed all undergraduate Criminology modules with an average mark of at least 60%. 

A: The core curriculum for the Honours Programme in Criminology includes the following modules:

CRIM 6814: Theoretical Perspectives of Crime and Justice
CRIM 6824: Selected Issues in Criminology
CRIM 6834: Advanced Victimology
CRIM 6844: Transitional Justice, Human Rights, and Development
CRIM 6800: Research, which involves a mini-dissertation

A: To be eligible for the Master's Programme in Criminology, students should have an Honours degree in Criminology at Exit Level 8 with an average mark of at least 60%. Additionally, they should have achieved a subminimum of at least 60% in each separate Honours module and a mark of at least 65% in the Research Report in Criminology at NQF Level 8.

A: The research component in the Master's Programme in Criminology is a Dissertation (Research Masters) with the code CRIM 8900. This dissertation allows students to conduct in-depth research in the field of criminology, applying their knowledge and research skills to address specific issues or questions in the discipline.

A: To be eligible for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Criminology, students should have a Master's degree in Criminology at Exit Level 9 and should have achieved a mark of at least 65% in the Master's Dissertation.

A: The core curriculum for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Programme in Criminology consists of the Thesis Criminology, with the code CRIM 9100. In this programme, students are expected to conduct extensive, original research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the field of criminology.
